SAILORS VALENTINES

Sailors Valentines were first designed by sailors during the 19th century with the sea shells they collected from their voyages. A true sailors valentine was said to include a flower design, a heart in any form, and a special verse or message. These works of art were made in wooden boxes usually two sided and hinged, with a heart shaped lock to close it. The sailors then took their valentines home to loved ones, thus the name Sailors Valentine
